Hello ,If by shovel like , you mean webbed ; yes, they are webbed and he
was so ugly he was cute pink toe pads and all ! I put him in a baggie and
zipped it shut. Took him to school to show and tell . Students could
squeeze his paw open through bag and get a real idea of what webbed 
toes are. It was a neat lesson for them. Some of the things we teachers get
by with!!!
