HIST: HIPS convention

Great idea to go north after iris season is over to stare at more irises
, but my goodness, these folks have more energy than I do!

Major highlight of the weekend was that wonderful meadow of sparse,
blooming, short grasses and big patches of taller Siberian irises,
growing wild. Unbelievably beautiful place - I coulda stayed there for
hours.

Fun to meet several of the folks in person that I've met here - I'm
afraid to list them for fear I will forget someone. Certainly a
highlight was meeting Mike Lowe and having him tell me he expected a
very intense, very large pear-shaped woman with orange hair! Lots of
hugs all around from everybody - like going to a big family reunion. I
also learned that Dave Silverberg isn't 250 lbs and 6 ft tall with a
bushy head of gray hair like I expected.

Good folks, good food (including lots of relatively non-allergenic
goodies), great flowers, and even (finally) a 6 pack of diet coke.
Special thanks to all the hosts and hostesses and cooks and gardeners
and gardeners helpers at all the gardens. And apologies to the peacock
who hid in his house after we all laughed at him for making a most
unpeacocklike sqawk. Wonderful weather (glad our plane waited till the
tornadic winds that took out the power to the hotel were out of the way
before we landed). Is there something about AIS conventions that
attracts tornados?

Favorite flower/display was a big, gorgeous patch of my dear old friend
MULBERRY ROSE.
