I guess the above 'translation' is something called folk etymology.
Earlier this spring there was a discussion on loropetalum or
razzleberri. In one of our local weeklies there was an ad for a
Memorial Week-end Plant sale. Included in the list of items on
sale was 'Laura Pendulum.' My curiosity got the best of me, so I
drove over to this garden center, and, indeed, what was listed as
'Laura Pendulum' was loropetalum and the corrupted name
appeared on a tag exactly so in every pot.
