Well, one of the things it could be is too much water. If the root tips
don't get a chance to dry out a little, the tip of the fans will brown.
That is not likely the cause however because the soil would have to be
really soggy for a while for that to happen.

Tell us more about the plants environment. Is it different from the
others at all? Amount of sun, fertilizer? Was it that way all spring or
just start to happen? What kind of soil do you have? You said Zone 9.
Are you costal, high desert, valley?
