And in different countries, different uses.  In rural Canada, in the winter and
only in the winter, they were 'Road Apples'  and when frozen they served as
hockey pucks.  They actually had some advantages when playing pond hockey.

Many great players of the past developed some of their skills using 'road
apples'.  The current crop of millionaires have been deprived in that respect
and perhaps that is why so many of them have great difficulty in controlling a
precisely made hard rubber disk.
