Dear Syl:
If you have the time, trim off the brown part of the leaf with a scissor and burn
or trash bag what you have removed, but it's too soon to do the late season trim,
which you have been doing exactly right.
Around here many people hit their iris with the power mower this time of year.
This is not recommended. I rescued a mess from such a bed three years ago and
they have just recovered to the point that they are blooming again.
It is an indication, however, of how hard one must work to kill an iris. Only
Linda Mann has a great track record for inducing frost damage and rhizome rot
that kill all but the hardiest.
The rest of us plead and cajole the great hybridizers to send us pre-intros for
garden tests, but they willingly send them to Linda, knowing if they survive her
garden they've got something going.
Talk about making lemonade out of lemons!
