My first rebloom of the season is this IB, introduced in 1976 by F.
Jones. Since I already have Lloyd Zurbrigg's Baby Blessed (R. 1979),
which was the first rebloomer that ever worked for me, I thought the
name similarity made it worth a check of the pedigree
Both share a common parent: Baby Blessed comes from Baby Snowflake x
Twice Blessed, and Blessed Again looks to Twice Blessed x Summer Fantasy
for its parentage.
Moving back to the 1969 checklist, I learned that Twice Blessed SDB (R.
1965 D. Dennis) is the product of Clear Sailing x Iris pumila.
So, we have an SDB Twice Blessed crossed with a TB Summer Fantasy to get
an IB. As a hybridizer, how would one go about bringing the bebloom gene
into a TB? Would one cross Blessed Again with another TB, or is that a
dead-end?
The question doesn't necessarily involve these particular varieties, but
is a general one - can one grow a desirable trait from pumila stock up
into a TB, such as color spots on the falls, for instance?
