RE: CULT: digging/dividing times


Hi Arnold,

My general advice to all and sundry on any perennial is to divide a minimum
of 2 weeks post-bloom and a minimum of 6 weeks pre-frost.  All perennials
seem to go through a dormant period shortly after blooming.  If you dig
before then, such as immediately following bloom, it is better to take some
care to disturb the roots as little as possible.  If you dig later in the
season, then a mulch is recommended.

6-8 weeks is the optimum period, but I have dug and divided both before that
time and after that time with no ill effects.
