Hi Rita,
I have some wild I. versicolor and I. virginica shrevi growing in a low area
and they don't seem to be bothered by the borers, but several years ago I
obtained some named varieties of I. versicolor which were planted in rows in
the garden. By the second year they were completely wiped out by borers.
Also, some I pseudacorus seedlings were killed by borers. We have some more
and are trying to pay special attention to keep borers out of them. This is
why we can't grow Louisiana irises. Bearded irises are attacked by, but not
usually killed by, borers.
