I hear you there! We had clay at our last house (in the same town!)
and here they get similar sandy soil to yours, only maybe not even as good as
loam! There I had to improve soil to lighten it up, here I have to improve
it to heavy it a bit and add substance. My personal opinion is the ones
more clay-based give richer colors. So many of the iris here seem to be
paler in color than I've seen them elsewhere. Wish I had brought some of
the clay from the last place to here!
