Hi all,
I had a lovely surprise when talking to a new piano student the other day.
After the lesson, the subject came around to gardening, a hobby which this
14 year old shares with his mum. I asked what he grew in his garden, and to
my surprise, he replied 'irises'.
His Dad suggested a tour of my garden, and the first thing I showed him was
my new tiny seedlings, and then my year old seedlings. Well - I had his
immediate attention, and he insisted on knowing how I got the seed, and a
lengthy discourse followed.
*Attention Mike Sutton - mention of reboomers and space agers really had him
entranced. I think we might have a future hybridiser in the making, and by
the sound of his enthusiasm, we can expect Reblooming, space age
intermediate irises (he likes the smaller irises) in all manner of
interesting colours. I beleive gardening is in the genes, and when you find
someone this young, with this much enthusiasm, it usually lasts throughout
their lives.
So now I have the job of educating this lad, not only in music, but in the
finer details (from my limited experience) of hybridising.
Just thought I'd share that with you,
Cheers, Jan
