Re: CULT:JI Pinkerton

Dear Walter:
I laid down my $50 over a year ago, got spring delivery of Pinkerton and it
bloomed twice last year! This year the clump has over a dozen bloom stalks and
it has 4-5 blooms ever since it began. I give it a gallon of Mir-Acid before
and after bloom season, mulch with shredded pine bark, and because I paid so
much for it I tended to over water, or so I thought. Since my water is from
limestone strata I added white vinegar until the pH was correct (about 2 tsps
per gallon). Some of the irises from that order did not survive in this JI
hostile environment, but Pinkerton and Pixie Won were my two most conspicuous
successes. Others blooming this year included Midnight Stars and Asian
Warrior.
My advice, spend the money and water the devil out of it. It's a great iris.
