I don't know Betty. A few folks have posted now and then about how many
seeds they get per pod and what 'normal' looks like, but mostly we all
seemed to have a lot of unanswered questions about viability of
odd-shaped and other abnormal developments. I think what it boils down
to is that most of us don't take good enough notes to be able to say.
This year, I had a couple of pods rot around the seeds, which looked
normal at first, but have shriveled to nothing as they have dried.

Your pods do seem early. My TB pods are just starting to lighten in
color & none are anywhere near ready to pop. Time to bring them indoors
tho.

Anybody know if the plant pacs from the Marts have germination
inhibitors in the potting soil?

I had total germination failure in some pots of iris seeds this year
that 'should' have been viable & ditto for some snap beans that I tried
to start early. The beans were old seed, so until yesterday, when I
inspected the thicket of bean plants that arose from the compost heap
where I dumped out the packets, I assumed they were no longer viable.
Sometimes, I buy more plants than I need or forget to water them before
getting them set out :< so I just throw the contents into the general
mix of sand/soil/compost for potting and starting seeds.
