OT: Lorapetalum has Iris ties...

Mornin' Fpr Rosalie and all...

In watching HGTV last weekend, think it was Landscaper's Design show, with
Gary Alan. They showed a big 3 clump planting of Lorapetalums (the
Razzleberry bushes) in full glorious bloom out front of a brand new house and
landscape...

An hour later, on Victory Garden (on PBS), they conducted a tour with the
famous hort author Michael Dirr of (I believe) his place, and LOW AND BEHOLD,
one of the distinctive plants the tour host was drawn to was a big planting
of Lorapetum with the common name "Razzleberry"... It was not currently
blooming, but putting on new leaves... It showed perfectly how the
Lorapetalum shrub retains it's green pubescent older leaves while putting on
a flush of new reddish maroon ones... It was a glowing example.

Michael Dirr went on to explain that "Razzleberry has taken the south by
storm since JIM WADDICK of KANSAS CITY brought back the collected variety
from China over his recent visits"... Believe he said Zone 7 to 10...
Definitely a zone 7 plant... It loves it here... Neither drought nor flood
seem to bother it...

Jim Waddick has been down to OKC and given talks on his famous Iris brought
back from China trips, but I sure didn't know he was the one responsible for
bringing us our wonderful new Razzleberry...

Thought you all would be interested... Stormin' and thunderin' here
again.... We're near several little towns at flood stage...

Kath in OKC..... =^.^=
