Dennis I checked in all my mycology books and found nothing resembling
that fungus. My first thought is that it comes closest to the Phallus
fungi. . did it have a bad odor? I'm posting a weird fungus (check
Iris-Photo) that grew in one of my cold frames in Arkansas a couple years
ago. It did have a foul odor and attracted flies. However, I cannot ID
this one either. Never saw one with tentacles before! Looks like chicken
feet, doesn't it? Some of Phallus fungi that I found up in Wisconsin
really smelled bad, like rotting carrion and you could actually locate
them by the sound of the buzzing flies (or by smell if the wind was
blowing in the right direction!)
Betcha some one will ID both of them for us!!
