Donald,

I have a somewhat different readout on BLACK FALLS in my garden. I agree
about the falls being the nearest to true black I have seen on a TB iris
and that the increase and quantity of bloom are not overly abundant (though
mine hasn't diminished to the vanishing point). I diverge from your
assesment of the form - the standards are closed, but not at all out of
proportion, and the falls flare, but are no more horizontal than those of
HELLO DARKNESS or BEFORE THE STORM (all 3 are currently in bloom in my
garden, and I went out and checked them before typing this). I have had BF
since it was introduced, and one year when everything in the garden bloomed
on exceptionally tall stalks, it reached a height of 48". With that one
exception, my complaint is that it always blooms at BB height. It did get
to 31" this year, which makes only the second time it has reached the
statutory height for a TB.
