Janet,
>PRIDE OF IRELAND...also not one bloom in four years. Think it's one of
>those "needs the cold" types.
I don't think it needs the cold. This one does well here and is a rare late
season bloomer that holds up to our heat. Maybe something else. Another
thing I wonder about in regards to this one. It has often been described as
a muddy or murky color. I think that may be true in some locales because it
can look somewhat dull on overcast days. But in our normal bright sun, it
glitters and looks very bright. I've found this effect to be true of
several that others have described as muddy or dull. PATINA, for instance -
it has a sparkling finish that's very attractive in our full sun. But I can
see it might not display that characteristic in climates not as harsh as it
is here. But here PRIDE OF IRELAND would be worth growing for its ability
to resist melting completely when it's hot, hot, hot. Extends the bloom
season.
