In what I believe to be a very unusual occurrence at an AIS accredited iris
show in this area, not a single tall bearded iris was among the top three
winners at the recent Western New York Iris Society show in Buffalo, NY!
Best Specimen in Show went to a dainty miniature tall bearded with subtle
light brown markings on a cream background, aptly named SAND PRINCESS.
First Runner Up was Chuck Chapman's HEATHER CARPET, shown by Chuck himself!
And Third Runner Up was the familiar siberian, CAESAR'S BROTHER!
Due to unfavorable weather here this spring, the talls weren't quite as
plentiful as usual. But we were extremely fortunate anyway in that Chuck, a
hybridizer and grower from Guelph, Ontario, Canada, had brought in a large
number of miniature and standard dwarfs which we almost never see at a show
in this area! He also brought in his charming family whose company we
greatly enjoyed!
