I would change the subject tag, but there doesn't seem to be anything
appropriate. Glenn, there's been a good deal of discussion on these tags
systems, so you might check the archives. We use the Brother TZ tapes and
think they are great. We've been using them over three years and, so far,
have had no problems whatever from them. I understand from other nurseries
that they will last for 5-7 years. You could then heat the tag and peel the
label off and reuse the metal tag. (The clear background is supposed to be
the best to use). We bought a Brother system that alllows us to keep a
database on our computer and just click the names we want to print...it's
very convenient. (And you can import and export the database). The office
supply businesses charge at least double what you can buy the tapes for
on-line. The best price I have found was $11.99 at Provantage.com.
And now a word from our sponsor: We print the labels for $0.25 each. We also
manufacture and sell an 18" marker that fits the EON zinc label and the Paw
Paw label (and we sell the labels also) but has legs made from stainless
steel rather than the galvanized steel those companies sell. We found that
their legs rusted to the top of the legs within 1-2 years and looked pretty
crappy in our otherwise beautiful gardens. With the Brother labels, our
markers are easy to read, attractive, unobtrusive, long lived and, at the
end of the day, very economical.

Subject: [iris-talk] Re; Garden labeling
I am wondering if anyone has experience with the Brother P-Label
laminated
paper labels in the garden. Do they hold up under the elements of sun and
rain?
I currently use EON's zinc labels (with stamped letters that are permanent
but hard to read) and I have some of the AAA engraved labels (which are
great but can cost as much as some older iris). So I am looking for a
system
that is cheaper than using the AAA labels.
Dymo also makes a similar system but office supply businesses in our area
seem to stock a wider line of the Brother tapes.
