Richard, welcome to iris-talk. It really is a worthwhile, informative and interesting group of letters/writers, even though some of us may get a bit carried away once in a while. With any group of several hundred people it's inevitable that we have several hundred different personalities, as you have lately been able to tell. Just like the iris we cherish!! Keep hanging in there with your unblooming lst year plantiings. That's pretty normal for me, too, and I think for most others as well. And this was not a good winter/spring for even older plants than lst year-in-your-garden babies. Calls for a whole year's worth of patience, which isn't my strong suit, but with iris one hasn't much other choice, so I "wait till next year." Glad you are part of the group.
