Re: Re: COMP - subject tags

Here is my two cents worth after years of reading and contributing to iris-l & iris-talk:

Subject tags are wonderful BUT really useless if folks don't change the subject when
'changing the subject'. That is why I voted "no" on the poll (again). NOT because I do
not 'like' subject tags but because I really believe in them when they are used
correctly. Not the way they are dictated to follow at the present.

It is really common sense:

*Change the subject when changing the subject.*

It is almost impossible to follow 'a' thread thru the archives since folks stray so far
away from the original subject line. I always read the iris-talk posts when I could
follow the thread when I was in lurkdom the past year. I always responded privately to
folks when I had info I thought that might be helpful...but even then, it was difficult
to follow the thread(s).

I am not a singular story _out_ there. I know scores of people (more than 25) who lurk
but never post. It is too bad since almost all of them have years of knowledge in
growing and hybridizing irises. If we could figure out a way to draw them in...but I may
vacate soon again to lurkdom for personal reasons.

It is not the list owner's fault. That I know, however....maybe, just maybe if the list
owner (whom I respect for his computer knowledge) could try not to make such an issue of
the subject tags and see what happens. Certainly would save a lot of hurt feelings (if
that is the correct verbage) on the part of tentative, new iris-talkers. It would also
save the moderator a lot of time.

More importantly, we would be able to follow a thread logically if the subject was in
agreement with the post!

But we are all imperfect so who is kidding who.. :-)

Cheers,

Ellen (30 people out of over 700 is not a good vote - vote no matter how - you too,
lurkers)
