Maybe He wanted to smile on Barry Blyth. I will ask the next time He visits. <

I first planted Pagan Dance in 1997. Increase was moderate the first year but
quite modest the second as I recall. In 1999 it had increased to 10 fans. I
believe it contracted bacterial soft rot sometime that year. In 2000 I
seperated the remaining rhizomes and treated with conventional methods
(scrape out and chlorox) with some soaking experimetation thrown in. I then
replanted 6 fans in my "sick bed". As of 2002 (today), 3 or 4 fans survive,
all from one of the original rhizomes.
Check List Discription: Pagan Dance (B. Blyth R. 1989) TB 32", E-L & RE,
Violet standards, Velvety black violet falls, 3/8 inch violet edge; burnt
tangerine beards.
This description is for the most part accurate for the way it blooms here
except the violet edge is more narrow and sometime impreceptable. My overall
preception of the bloom is one of small for the plant but properly formed.
Bud count here (six or so) is modest but properly spaced.
Rebloomers do have a ways to go in catching todays modern introductions as a
group. All irises are beautiful (aparently this is arguable). So, our delimma
is plant them and have bloom later in the year or don't plant and do without
bloom. Not really much of a delimma, Huh?
Among the Blyth iris and not a rebloomer I particularly like Queen of
Elegance. Stately and grand in every respect! Sadly, no pods in two years.
