Your description doesn't fit with what I've called scorch here. I have had
incipient rot show up as brown leaves in the central fan and peeled into it
to find the trademark odor. What I call scorch has effected the entire fan,
starting with rapidly browning tips and progressing quickly, but not
overnight. How long it may have been present, I don't know, but when the
symptoms have occurred it has progressed reasonably quick. For all that the
rhizomes don't appear to suffer damage. I used your method among many
others and found it wasn't worthwhile to even try and save a plant. I would
only try again if a new method was presented or if the plant was one I
really wanted and might be hard to replace. Otherwise, I would simply
replace it with a new purchase. It has been a plague here the last several
seasons, though only one this year vanished due to the affliction.
