Dear Christian,
I live in Lexington, Kentucky. You were lucky that 50% of your newly
planted irises bloomed. We had a weird Spring, too wet , followed by a late
freeze. Of the new iris plants I got last year, I think only about 20%
bloomed. But next year, the second year, you should see 90% bloom with 2-5
stalks each. Give them some bone meal or super-phosphate this Fall, unless
they are rebloomers, then fertilize & water them more. Next Spring give them
5-10-10 or 10-10-10. Then by the third year you will need to give them some
superphosphate, manure, alfalfa, leaf mold, and /or divide them before they
croud each other out.
Write me if you want to chat or come to the BGIS meetings.
