Now that major bloom-season is over, except for our northernmost neighbors,
we have a request for all iris-addicts! We are editors for several iris
publications and are always looking for articles from all interested parties
-- especially on Tall Bearded and Japanese irises. If you have an article
you have written or are thinking about writing or have a suggestion for an
article you would like to see, please e-mail us (off-list) and we'll discuss.
Many of the topics discussed on Iris-talk make for great articles, small and
large.
One of the topics, I am particularly interested in (and I would love to write
an article on this if I could gather enough information) is "cemetery
irises." We have all heard many stories of how settlers took their irises
with them when moving and planted them at the graveside of their family while
moving across the country. The old cemetery where my family is buried in
Upstate New York has tons of irises (including ones we planted only 5 years
ago and were beautiful this year when we visited) and I know this must be the
case across the country.
Any help you can give on books, articles and personal experiences with
"cemetery irises" will be most appreciated. Contact us "off list" at
GormleyGreenery@aol.com.
