Thanks, Laurie, for that nice detailed explanation on how to use databases!  
I printed it out - nearly 2 pp.  No one else has done such a Good deed that I 
know of!  I'm not exactly a newbie, just a not very experimental one since I 
have all the R & Is - and don't see how anyone can do without them that love 
irises!  However - and this is where I might get backbone enough to follow your 
directions. and not bother email friends.  I have a label in my garden, but 
not sure where the iris is, and can't identify it without a descriptio!  AND I 
can't find the name as far back as the '39 -- in those days they weren't too 
people friendly with their descriptions.  The name I'm looking for is 
PHILANDERER  so I will search the data base with bated breath! ! 

It would help if emailers would put iris names in caps, the accepted way for 
publications.  Rosalie nr Baltimore,USA  zone 7 being washed away with more
