okay, I'll bite.
I understood that if an iris was listed in the Checklist it was listed with
information on how to get a rhizome of the cv in question. Now I understand
that people up and die and stuff, but...
Well, if the cv in question is Introduced in say '96, and the '96 R&I
includes the hybridizer himself as the source for the cv, then he dies in
say 99. So that would set up a scenario where that cv would have been
available for only two/three years before the hybridizer dies. Then what?
I'm guessing often even if the family knows he had introduced the cv, they
might not keep it, or the ground it was growing on once he's dead...
So how do you track down the 'limited availiability' cv's like that?
