funny looking seed pod????

I have never seen a pod on an Iris before. After they have finished blooming.
They are about 2 to 3 inches long and about an inch in diameter. Has three
sections lenghtwise and is purched on top of the stem that had the blooms.
They are not on every stem. What are they???????? Thanks.... Later....
