HYB:CULT: Seed embryos- more info please.

okay that's at least twice in the last two weeks that the word embryo has
been used in relationship to seeds. I'm curious about this.

For example, I cut into a pod to see what color the seeds were. Since I
damaged one of the seeds in so doing I popped it out and cut it open and I
saw something that satisfied my idea of an embryo. OTOH when none of my
seeds from last year germinated I got annoyed and cut into a couple of those
thinking there might be some sign of an impending germination. None of
those that I cut open seemed to have an embryo of any kind.

So, can someone post a pic of a disected seed showing an embryo? Does the
'ripeness' of the seed make a difference? Am I being too scientifically
minded or something?
