The zone map now has my location in Zone 8. However, I have lived in what
used to be and still is considered Zone 8 in the southernmost part and it is
very different than my growing conditions in what is shown as the middle
part of Zone 8 now. Many plants are not compatible from the two parts of
Zone 8. The zones are a loose guideline often, I would think. If the
growing conditions vary that much in just the Texas portion, I wonder how
much more variation there may be from the dry western portions to the much
higher rainfall eastern portions.
