I'm not saying to trim off *all* context,
(a style I usually refer to as "AOL mode," because
I get many email replies from AOL members that have
no included material whatsoever, and thus no context.
Your reply is an example). What I'm saying is that
there is no earthly reason to include an *entire digest*
of iris-talk in one's reply to a single post.
That's what's been happening, and it makes it virtually
impossible for digest readers to discern what new
material there is in a posting when ten or fifteen
of these giant posts are getting concatenated into
one enormous daily digest.

What's so bad about editing down the included material
to a few pertinent paragraphs?

Jean, my experience has been different.  I find it frustrating to have to hunt
up old e-mails because the sender has a vivid picture of what they are talking
about, but I don't have a clue because it may have been days since I read the
original and I may have read dozens of e-mails since then!    ;-)   AOL makes
it difficult to go to the archives and maintain an open email.
