Hi Patti and Everyone--
I didn't want to say too much becuase I didn't like to steal anyone's
thunder--especially those who worked hard on the show. I enjoyed it
particularly becuase I was so unfamiliar with the kinds of irises there,
the intermediates (medians?). I also hadno idea that flowers could come
with so many varieties of color and so many colors in one flower. I,
who love strong colors and large blooms, went nuts over the delicacy and
gracefulness. I particularly liked ABRIDGED VERSION, DICKY BIRD, BANG,
WITCH OF ENDOR, GREEN KNOTTY PINE (this one knocked me out), NECTAR,
WINE RED, CAYENNE CAPERS. not all of these are the little irises, I
know, so my love for TBs is strongly out there still. The Queen,
GUDRUN, was magnificent, so tall and so strong looking and gigantic
blooms.
I watched the judges huddling for awhile and felt how good it was NOT to
be a judge -- I'm too fickle.
Dorothy Fingerhood explained lots of things to me and my friends about
why some blooms win and some don't and she pointed out flaws in some
blooms I never would have noticed. I wonder if the Platonic iris
exists, and would I know it if I saw it.
