Re: I.variegata


Further to Chris Morris' comment, there is a photo of variegata in 
Volume I of Perennials by Roger Phillips and Martyn Rix (I believe the
section on irises is by Brian Mathews).  See page 191.

 It is surprising that this beautiful plant is not in all the basic
books on irises as it is the historical parent of many of our garden
beardeds.

I have about 20 different plants of this species, from a variety of
stocks, all in bud.  I would imagine that they will be flowering
together in about 2 weeks.  I have mixed the normal colour variety with
the white-violet one (albino?) in the hope that the latter will set some
seed as the albinos were all sterile last year.
