Hi, Rima. Since I posted my "explanation," Lois Rose (I think) posted one
about freeze damage when the stalks are just forming. This could also be it,
I suppose. It has struck my garden, now, and a meticulous inspection of the
rotted areas showed no visible bug bites, etc. So I think that is also a good
possibility (cold wx damage). Mine are showing all KINDS of it--twisted,
stunted stalks, malformed flowers, aborted stalks and buds--very, very, sad.
-----OFF to meeting today; demo on how to "groom" and prepare irises to
show--using my sad specimens. Have a good day! Dorothy
