Hello again everyone!
I'm back to iris-l, all be it in digest form only, so please excuse me if I
don't contribute hugely to the discussion.
Since I was last here, the following have occured:
1. went to Chelsea Flower Show and staged bronze medal exhibit of irises
2. met Clarence and Suky Mahan and Mike and Anne Lowe - what great people!
3. held our annual iris picnic weekend (chaos)
4. was filmed for BBC Gardeners World TV programme (to be broadcast next
year)
5. went to the South of England Show and staged gold medal exhibit (not
irises).
My questions for listers are as follows:
1. Loads of people over here getting excited about introductions by Bliss.
I've foolishly offered to help track down these things, so if anyone has
plants of any Bliss intro's and is able to get them to me here in the UK, I
can then propagate them and distribute them to the members of the BIS
concerned.
2. I'm also interested (for my own use) in plants of Cedric Morris
introductions. Cedric is going through a big vogue over here just now (watch
your July issue of the RHS magazine The Garden and see some of my brother's
photos). Again, anyone who has true-to-name plants of any Morris intro and
can ship them to me, PLEASE get in touch.
3. And (taking my cue from Clarence) if anyone wants to just send me some
plants of any nice irises (particularly your new intros if you are a
hybridiser) then go ahead and we will introduce them to the unsuspecting
European gardeners!
We are still working with PHSI (Plant Health and Seeds Inspectorate) to get
our export permits for sending plants to the US - until that occurs, I can
not offer plants in exchange, but I am prepared to refund all shipping costs
and send something (historics most likely) when we have our permit sorted out
(goodness knows when with the speed that our authorities move at!).
