Re: CULT: New Iris Book

Good comments, Bill Shearer. Not only do English books not have cultivation
that applies to much of the US but the varieties they write about are not
available here. Just not for beginning gardeners. We have 4 excellent books
for beginners: The World of Irises edited by B. Warburton & M Hamblen (both
wonderful hybridizers and knowledgeable in many aspects of Iris- try to get
one while they are available). The Siberian Iris, and The Japanese Iris both
edited by Currier McEwen, a hybridizer and specialist in both types. The
Louisiana Iris, edited by M. Caillet & J. Meitzweiler, also specialists. The
AIS puts out a good pamphlet for beginning gardeners. I happen to enjoy
English gardening books but have been gardening extensively for 43 years and
what I enjoy now is not what I needed the first five years.
Anna Mae Miller, Zone 5, MI where Honey Glazed is just finishing and TBs are
just beginning and the siberians seem to be scrambled in their bloom
sequence. MY LOVE, an early bloomer is blooming with pinks that are more
midseason and the early I. siberica types are not in bloom. I don't get
it!!!
