Hi Bob... Kathy Guest here from the OTHER end of the state... near the
Buffalo area.  It's not unusual in our zone to have irises 'sulk' for a year.
 In fact, we tell our people to expect 20% bloom on year one, 60% year two,
and 99% on year three.  

I also wonder when you divided?  We recommend July here.... much later and
the irises put all their attention to growing roots and getting settled
before winter.  

And one FINAL note.... I wonder if you fertilized, and if so, with what??  We
recommend a low nitrogen fertilizer.

If you like, I can send you information on iris culture in our zone... and I
can ALSO send you information on iris sales in the Poughkeepsie and Albany
areas.

Kathyguest... hoping that Bob won't get discouraged and that she can MAYBE
even talk him into trying some beardless irises.
