HIST - Morris and Bliss varieties

Anner said:
"Cedric Morris had a habit of introducing irises without registering them."

Graham replies:
..don't we know it - we already have two that we know for sure are his, but
were not registered. We are currently considering registering them on his
behalf.

Anner continues:
"You may wish to take another look at the article "Put Out More Flags" in the
July, 1994 issue of Gardens Illustrated magazine. It concerns woman who
obtained a lot of Sir Cedric's stuff directly from him. If you contact her,
for pity's sake tell her that
WABASH-y looking thing on page 88 isn't STEPPING OUT.

Graham says:
We supplied the plants for the magazine's Cedric Morris iris special offer in
that issue, which the most popular special offer they had ever had (since
bettered I understand). Unfortunately, there are many people who claim to
have Cedric's irises, mainly due to the fact that he freely and generously
gave away plants from his seedling patch to friends and (controversy here)
lovers (so rumour has it - I can not validate this). Lamentably, these people
were not methodical in keeping records.

Anner goes on to say:
If you manage to obtain rhizomes of introductions by these two British
hybridizers over here, I doubt it will be in quantities appropriate for
short-term commercial purposes. I have checked my catalogs and it appears
that most are not available for sale at the moment. One swaps or begs. If you
would like to follow up on this further in additon to speaking to Mike or
Clarence you may wish to contact the International Director of HIPS, Dr.
Arthur Tucker, whose e-mail address is [aotucker@desu.edu].

Graham responds:
I will contact Arthur - thanks - whatever would I do without my friends on
iris-l??
