Good afternoon from a wet and cold S Africa.
I have just acquired I. kaempferi described as the largest iris in
the world (according to the catalogue from a local nursery) - Mount
Fugi (picture shows white) and Wounded Dragon (no picture) described
as pale blue. In my ignorance had not realised
these were Japanese iris until I searched in World of Iris. So I was
interested in the recent thread on poor sources as I have not made up
my mind yet about this nursery. I have also just acquired I
tectorum from the same place and earlier in the year I unguicularis
which are doing fine. No mention in the planting instructions was
made of the Japs requiring a lot of water. If they do - well they
are getting it now but after that they must fend for themselves. Our
1820 Settlers had the motto "Adapt or die".
All the best
