Rima,
I believe the word "verified" as used above refers to a historic iris
which has been identified and is true to its' name. Identification of
older iris is usually verified by a number of irisians who usually
belong to HIPS. Sometimes if the iris is distinctive enough it can be
done by a photo and the AIS checklists may be used. Other times it may
look like 50 others and sending a rhizome to one or more HIPS members
may be necessary for identification. Mike Lowe was mentioned as a HIPS
member to send it to (but ask him first). Of course you could send it
to Phil Edinger. It is his job as Identification chairman of HIPS.
There are other members of HIPS who could help and if you need more
names let me know.
Wouldn't it be nice of HIPS had a picture inventory on a CD-ROM?
