RE: Rebloomers & Seed Pods

Marte--maybe it's because we have day jobs. Actually, I've had trouble lately
keeping up with the e-mail, what with working full time and then coming home
and working in the garden till dark. We usually have dinner on the European
schedule, that is, around 9:00, veg around for a while, and then I wander off
to the computer. But the solstice is this weekend, and it'll start getting
dark earlier, and things will get back to normal, whatever that is.

I hope your reblooming experiments go well. The altitude part of the equation
does throw in a wrinkle sometimes, but I usually get something to rebloom
here, though the only iris that has rebloomed for me every year for the last
year is my own SDB seedling, unnamed and unregistered.

be neat to see what grows from this seed, but I'm supposed to be
conducting an experiment on reblooming potential of SDB's & TB's in a
zone 4 dry garden, so I guess I'll remove the pods.

BTW, earlier this evening Bill Maryott said that leaving the pods on
would have no effect whatsoever on the plants (energy-wise, I presume
he's talking about, but I wonder if he meant it wouldn't negatively
effect "normal" SDB's?) So I continue to be doubtful about whether or
not seed pods on *rebloomers* lessens chances of that hoped-for second
bloom in late summer/early fall. Oh, well -- off with their pods!

And Barb -- you & I seem to be the current night owls on this List. Is
it because we live at a high altitude do you think??!! Or is there some
deeper, darker significance to us being at our computers in what others
consider the middle of the night...
