This is my first year with TBs and maybe my last. The monsoon-type
rain yesterday didn't really faze them *but* the gale-force winds
that we have up here did. The rhizomes were lifted out of the
ground and the bloomstalks completely flattened. Little HONORABILE
was gazing down at the 'big guys'.
After the storm passed, major fix-up was needed included two trips
to a garden supply store since our hand-made supports didn't hold
in our wind. Only their deep roots saved them from the compost
pile.
These mountain winds are not unusual. Our small dogs have been
lifted up in the air...15 canine lbs.
Not one Siberian, Japanese or IBs, SDBs or any other flower here
was 'hit' like the TBs. How does anybody else manage with the TBs
and very strong winds coupled with rain? We have special peony
supports that held.
Thinking about contacting the folks I ordered TBs from and asking
them to substitute medians...are you out there, Rick and Lowell?
I only ordered medians from Aitken and others.
Still picking up the mess of tree branches,
Ellen Gallagher
