When moving to Missouri seven years ago, the local Iris growers in our
rural area gave this advice about borers (never heard of them before) and=
it has really worked for us : (it is rampant here on untreated beds)
Cygon IIE - start when the crocus bloom and spray every six weeks - so fa=
r
so good!
Soft rot - have some due to lots of rain but most have been dealt
successfully with:
clear the debris, scrape with spoon, sprinkle Comet
Works most of the time after diverting most of the rainwater away from th=
e
slopped beds with ditches, pipe, raised bed or just moving the iris
somewhere else!
However, the solutions to black spot and Especially moles has eluded us. =
The Japanese Iris just went into a kiddie pool bog because we have lost s=
o
many to mole holes filling with water and freezing and "doin' in" the JIs=
=2E
Granted daylilies and some other plants may be less long term trouble, th=
e
glorious rainbow of iris (probably 600-700 varieties this year) blooming
were a sight TDF (to die for!!) and with the cool spring, lasted just
forever.
Thanks to all of you for the great suggestions and input.
