Canadian (or Musk) thistles? How 'bout Spotted Knapweed & Russian? These
beasties had gotten so bad on our hill that dogs & small children were
afraid to go outside.

We get lots of thistles, about half a dozen species, and I'm not including the
Russian in that as it's a different family, but we make Christmas trees out of
spray-painted tumbleweeds (Russian thistle) here!
I have a wonderful plant book, Weeds of the West, published by the Western
Society of Weed Science (didn't know there was one, but there you go), which
profiles just about every weed in this half of the country, with beautiful
glossy pictures, detailed information on every species, and their point of
origin. If you see it, take a look!
Barb, in Santa Fe, where I am on very intimate terms with my weeds. Some of
them are even friends. Okay, not the prickly lettuce.
