You guys in the middle south have had much rain, late frosts, peculiar
growing conditions with temps so I guess you have cause to complain.
We have had strange conditions for bearded iris not entirely understood by
me. The siberians came along in the drought so if one has no water for them,
they are sparse and look parched. They and the peonies are my last watering
project, with them I stop.
We have heard the JI's complain so are carrying water to them. Various
species which are the interesting ones may be damaged by our drought so need
to be watched.
A surprise is laviegata variegata which is growing and blooming in a dried up
bed forgotten and thirsty.
We have the second driest June since l826 and no rain in the forecast. One
can make up for rain just so long - carrying and pumping water (from ponds)
is exhausting.
We east of the Mississippi have all the tribulations of the gardener's lot
with July and August still ahead. So Mark in Kentucky while you a bit
depressed over your obviously fine iris collection take comfort - the rest of
us are none too happy either, this year.
