Back to the awards.

Best Beard:
	ESTHER THE QUEEN (Hunt '68).  I'm glad she doesn't shave.
The rich brown, thick beard is a standout.  Other hirsute delights were
AT LAST and TRAITOR.

Best Special Effects:
	Given to an iris with immediate repeat bloom.  The award goes
to CHIMERA (Zurbrigg '61).  This IB just kept sending up new bloom 
stalks.  Finally totalled five in sequence before saving the increase for
later (maybe in the fall).  Others in the category were TENNESSEE
GENTLEMAN (two), ELECTRIQUE, RUSTY MAGNIFICENCE, SHONDO,
ZWANENBURG.

Most Prolific Bloom:
	TRAITOR (Jameson '94).  Five stalks on a first year rhizome, each
with at least seven blooms per stalk and some up to ten per stalk.  If it
had reached the registered height with the stalks, it would have been hard
to beat.  As it was, they only reached 28-30 inches and kept it from being
the most outstanding garden iris.  Runners up:  JEWEL OF OMAR, the
old homestead purple iris, I unguicularis (okay, so it doesn't bloom in
spring -
lasting until March is close enough), BLACK GAMECOCK (LA), and
SEA SHADOWS (Sib).

Most Distinctive:
	Award to CHIMERA (Zurbrigg '61).  I thought this award would have
gone to an arilbred - and it would have if not for this IB.  It just has to
be one
of a kind.  Others were the arilbreds as a class, JADE QUEEN and I fulva.

Peoples Choice:
	For the second year in a row, if SATAN'S MISTRESS (Seligmann '82)
has been in bloom, nothing else seems to stand a chance.  The second
choices vary widely, but if this one is in bloom, it gets chosen.

My Favorite:
	Finally, proof that the rest of the world is not always out of step with
this Johnny - SATAN'S MISTRESS.
