With the early spring and fluctating temperatures -- we've had about four
heat waves (over 30C for two or three days where normals are 15-20C) -- I've
noticed that a number of normally reliable iris are not doing as well.
These have bloomed shorter and have lower bud counts.  Some also have
shorter branches so that they bunch up.  On the other hand, a number of
reluctant bloomers are doing very well.  It is going to be interesting if I
can find the time to match up my notes from two years ago when we had three
freeze-thaws, to see if any iris did well under both these weather
conditions.
