Although I've been "listening in" on
the iris-list, and its predecessor, for a couple of years now, I've never sent
an open message. I have replied to several individuals, but this is new to me. I
hope it works.
My name is Betty Coyle and I own the Carlotta
Iris Garden in Carlotta, California. Carlotta is located in the heart of redwood
country in beautiful northern California, about 25 mile south-east of Eureka.
Carlotta is best known as the center of controversy over the "Headwaters
Forest", a grove of ancient redwoods recently acquired by the state and
feds as a national preserve. Carlotta is located about 10 miles inland from the
Pacific Ocean in the beautiful Van Duzen River valley.
I have discovered that redwoods are not the only
things that grow well in Carlotta; iris also love the fertile soil and
year-round mild climate. I currently have over 300 varieties and close to 1000
individual plants in my relatively small commercial garden. My garden is so
small in fact that I often have conversations with individual plants! Although
we do not at this time have a presence on the "web", we have produced
our first catalog, which I'll be happy to send you upon request.
I love irises and I love sharing them. I would
love to hear from you.

Ps: When my husband finishes(ha ha!) remodeling
our 1870s era farmhouse, maybe he'll have time to help me put together a web
site. Any suggestions in this area will be sincerely
appreciated.
