Re: CULT: Holes in Seed Pods

From: "S&C Rust" <srust@fidnet.com>

Whenever we have a hole in a seed pod it is always occupied by something
that is eating the seeds. Looks like a small whitish worm. We never leave
seed pods unprotected. Either we spray them every day with Safer's Soap or
every week with pyrethrin. The spathes must be peeled off or moisture will
collect (even during drought!) and insects (aphids) will also congregate
there. All leaves are stripped off the stalks or they will rot; stalks with
pods are staked. Gosh! But, we have found that here in the midwest if
these things are not done, the pods are goners. Unless it is a bee pod on
the iris you are getting rid of anyway, of course!
