Further to this business of finding descriptions of historic irises.

Verbal descriptions of many of the older irises which survive may also be 
found in the catalogs of those fine purveryors of historic irises, the 
nurseries which support HIPS. A list of these nurseries is found on the HIPS 
page at http://www.worldiris.com, along with photographs of some of the most 
beautiful or historically significant irises of the past two centuries, and a 
copy of the 1939 Color Chart.
